What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deck Supervisor position at Metuchen-Edison YMCA?
Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director, Asst. Aquatic Director or Coordinator this person supervise the swim lessons, open swims, aquatic events, etc as assigned. This person is responsible for training and supporting the Aquatic Leadership team to ensure that the quality of the YMCA swim programs, guarding, and aquatic environment are in line with YMCA of MEWSA Aquatic policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Have a complete understanding of the operations of the Aquatic Department.
2. Ensure the delivery of quality programs that stress safety, fun, and an environment of friendly learning.
3. Ensure the programs meet the program objectives and are of excellent value.
4. Share the responsibility for safety and well being of all participants, guests and members.
5. Maintain a neat, orderly and safe pool deck.
6. Ensure all guards and instructors and actively engaged in their role and responsibility.
7. Keep accurate attendance records, help schedule make-ups and additional records or paperwork as assigned.
8. Support the Aquatic Leadership team in all forms of communication to parents and participants.
9. Follow the house rules and expect the same of his/her staff.
10. Promote a “member friendly and family friendly” environment.
11. Spend time with the students and parents to ensure all expectations are met.
12. Keep the Aquatic Director and Assistant Aquatic Director apprised of activities, situations or problems in the pool area.
13. Attend all mandatory meeting, as well as those recommended by supervisor.
14. Utilize the assigned time recording system to accurately record all time worked (time clock or missed punch form).
REQUIREMENTS:
· An excellent understanding of the aquatic department.
· A strong ability to supervise and lead others.
· Must be certified in first aid, CPR, and life guarding.
· A strong ability to be part of the in-service and aquatic drill delivery team.
· Must be able to relate to the membership, volunteers and other staff in a professional manner.
PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sufficient strength and skill technique to control and rescue struggling adult swimmers, lifting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, concentration, attention and focus to one area for extended periods of time, warm weather outdoor work, average to warm in-door and out-door pool heat and humidity.
