MEP Data Center Project Manager

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) Data Center Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of mission-critical data center construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing MEP systems within hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center environments, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end MEP project execution for data center builds, including new construction, retrofits, and capacity upgrades
- Manage design coordination, procurement, and installation of mechanical (cooling/HVAC), electrical (power distribution, generators, UPS), and plumbing systems
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans; proactively identify and mitigate risks
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, general contractors, and MEP subcontractors to ensure design intent is met
- Oversee commissioning (Cx) activities and ensure systems meet Uptime Institute Tier ratings or client-specific reliability standards
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Ensure compliance with local codes, safety regulations, and client/company quality standards
- Conduct regular site walks, progress meetings, and stakeholder reporting
- Manage client relationships and act as primary point of contact for project status and issue resolution
- Support procurement of long-lead MEP equipment (generators, UPS, chillers, switchgear, CRAC/CRAH units)
- Drive close-out process including as-built documentation, O&M manuals, and warranty tracking
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 years of project management experience in MEP construction, with at least 2–3 years specifically in data center projects
- Strong understanding of critical infrastructure systems: UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, fire suppression, and BMS
- Proven experience managing budgets, schedules (MS Project/Primavera), and subcontractors
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier standards and industry codes (NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- PMP certification preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center providers
- Knowledge of commissioning processes (Level 1–5)
- OSHA 30 certification
- Experience with BIM/AutoCAD coordination
