Safety, Operational Compliance, and Training (SOCT) is the function responsible for setting and maintaining Metrea's global standards for safe, compliant, and professional operations. The Capability Area manages the Integrated Management System (IMS), which is the organisation's unified management framework.
The IMS integrates the ICAO Annex 19-compliant Safety Management System (SMS) with multiple international certifications, including Quality, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, Information Security, and Aerospace Quality. SOCT oversees the implementation of these frameworks and delivers training to embed compliance and operational excellence across the business.
Position Summary
The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Lead is a pivotal, enterprise-level role responsible for establishing, implementing, and governing the company’s global EHS policy and compliance framework. Reporting to the Head of SOCT, this role will drive the development and integration of ISO 14001 (Environmental) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) standards into our Integrated Management System (IMS) from the ground up. The Lead is responsible for ensuring EHS regulatory compliance across all jurisdictions where Metrea has a footprint, including key bodies such as OSHA, EPA, and UK HSE, thereby managing our international EHS requirements.

This is a full-time non-exempt position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.

Role And Responsibilities
Enterprise Policy and System Development
- Develop and implement Metrea’s EHS Policy and associated procedures, establishing alignment with global best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the strategic planning, implementation, and management of the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 elements, functioning as the primary EHS subject matter expert for the Integrated Management System (IMS). This includes collaborating closely with other Operational Compliance Leads (focused on ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and AS9100) to seamlessly integrate these standards and monitoring new and changing global EHS legislation to ensure proactive compliance adjustments.
- Conduct regular internal EHS audits across all sites to verify compliance with the EHS Policy, ISO standards, and local regulatory requirements.
- Develop and manage a global compliance registry, ensuring all sites are aware of and adhere to their jurisdictional EHS obligations.
- Manage engagements with registrars and regulatory bodies regarding EHS compliance, supporting external audits and leading deficiency resolution efforts.
- Establish EHS performance metrics, track key indicators, and provide clear, regular reporting to top leadership on the health and performance of the EHS management system.
- Manage the Carbon Footprint tracking and reporting process, partnering with third-party vendors to ensure accurate data, certification, and alignment with Metrea’s wider Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.
- Provide expert guidance, mentoring, and training to site-level EHS representatives and operational managers globally, enhancing their competency in managing local EHS requirements.
- Foster a proactive safety culture across the enterprise, promoting awareness and accountability for EHS policies and compliance at all levels of the organisation.
- Oversee the development and delivery of specialized EHS training programs for employees and site personnel.
Education and Formal Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Formal Lead Auditor certification in ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001.
- Professional EHS certifications (Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from BCSP or a NEBOSH Diploma).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience managing EHS programs in a multi-site or global operational environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in the application of US OSHA regulations, standards, and compliance mechanisms within a multi-site or large organizational context.
- Understanding of international EHS frameworks and regulations (e.g., EU, UK, or other major jurisdictions).
- Proven, hands-on experience designing, implementing, and achieving certification for both ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems from a nascent state.
- Extensive experience with the global application of EHS standards, including an understanding of international EHS regulations (e.g., EU, UK, or other major jurisdictions).
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering comprehensive EHS training and mentorship programs.
- Experience developing and deploying an EHS environment that complements and partners with an aviation operations focused Safety Management System in compliance with ICAO Annex 19 standards.
- Experience operating within a complex, matrixed organization, ideally within the aerospace or defense sector.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate complex EHS requirements clearly to both executives and frontline operational staff.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of developing pragmatic compliance solutions for diverse global sites.
- Demonstrated ability to drive cultural change and champion EHS as a core operational value.
- Must be eligible to work in the USA.
