We are seeking a Special Process Lab Supervisor for our client in Tempe, AZ. The Special Process Lab Supervisor leads daily operations of our Special Processes Laboratory, ensuring compliance with customer, industry, regulatory, and NADCAP requirements. This role oversees lab personnel, process control, testing, equipment, and continuous improvement while partnering with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Customers to drive safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
What You'll Do
- Supervise daily operations of gold plating, electroless nickel plating, and related chemical processing
- Ensure processes meet customer specs, industry standards, NADCAP, and company procedures
- Manage lab staff: hiring, training, performance evaluations, and scheduling
- Oversee process control testing, chemical analysis, bath maintenance, and verification activities
- Review and approve test results, certifications, and process documentation
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions
- Ensure EHS compliance for chemical handling and hazardous waste
- Develop and maintain SOPs, specifications, and work instructions
- Coordinate internal, customer, regulatory, and NADCAP audits
- Oversee calibration and maintenance of lab equipment
- Analyze process data and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage lab inventory, chemical procurement, and supplier relationships
- Present operational metrics and quality reports to management
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related field
- 5-10 years in metal finishing, electroplating, special processes, or lab management
- Strong knowledge of plating chemistry, bath control, and analytical testing (titrations, pH, coating verification)
- Familiarity with AMS, ASTM, MIL, IPC, and NADCAP requirements
- Experience with SPC, process capability analysis, and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
- Prior supervisory experience in a NADCAP-accredited environment preferred
- Semiconductor or Aerospace manufacturing experience a plus
- Certifications a plus: NADCAP, CEF, CIPC, Hazcom, Lean/Six Sigma, ASQ
Working Conditions Manufacturing lab environment with exposure to varying temperatures. Requires standing/sitting for extended periods, frequent bending/reaching, and lifting up to 30-50 lbs with assistance (30 lbs without). Moderate noise level.
