Description

The Human Resources Generalist – Florida Operations provides comprehensive HR support to all Merrell Bros., Inc. and Seminole Merrell Compost employees and management teams located within the Florida market area. This role reports directly to the Director of Human Resources at Headquarters in Indiana, ensuring full alignment, compliance, and consistency with company-wide HR policies, procedures, and strategic goals. 

The HR Generalist acts as the primary on-site HR liaison for Florida operations, partnering with division leadership and headquarters HR to deliver exceptional service in recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits, performance management, and compliance.  This positions reports to the Director of Human Resources. This position plays a vital role in promoting Merrell Bros., Inc.’s culture and Core Values throughout all Florida work locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead recruiting efforts for Florida positions, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and background checks (MVR, PSP, criminal, drug screens).
  • Partner with the HR Director and Florida leadership to identify staffing needs, create accurate job descriptions, and define hiring criteria.
  • Facilitate the new hire process from offer through orientation, ensuring a positive, compliant, and values-driven onboarding experience.
  • Serve as liaison and subject matter expert as it relates to company-wide HR policies and procedures consistently across all Florida locations.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal employment laws in coordination with Merrell Bros. legal counsel and HR department.
  • Provide accurate and timely updates, reports, and recommendations to the HR Director regarding Florida hiring activities.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee relations matters in Florida, handling inquiries, conflict resolution, and investigations with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with Leadership team to provide support related to disciplinary actions, terminations, and corrective processes to ensure consistency and fairness.
  • Coordinate with Benefits Manager on benefit enrollments, leave management, and pay-related issues.
  • Promote employee engagement through recognition programs, communication initiatives, and culture-building activities that reinforce company values.
  • Assist with identifying and coordinating training opportunities for Florida employees and leaders.
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and provide insights for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Attend HR meetings, job fairs, and recruiting events as a representative of Merrell Bros., Inc.
  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of HR generalist experience with exposure to recruiting, employee relations, and compliance.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong experience in talent acquisition, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and coordinating hiring for multiple roles.
  • Knowledge of best-practice hiring processes, interview techniques, compliance considerations, and candidate experience standards.
  • Ability to partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs and guide effective staffing decisions.
  • Experience managing recruiting funnels, tracking metrics, and ensuring timely communication with candidates.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport across multiple sites.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities with a proven ability to handle confidential information.
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices, particularly for multi-state operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Paycom experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication with the Indiana HR team.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Florida and to Headquarters in Indiana for training or meetings.
  • Transportation and DOT hiring experience a plus!
