This role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Director of Facilities to support the operational foundation of a mission-driven religious organization. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in building systems, safety, and team leadership, ensuring that a multi-building campus operates smoothly, safely, and sustainably. With responsibility for both day-to-day operations and long-term capital planning, particularly for aging facilities, this position plays a pivotal role in maintaining a welcoming, functional, and secure environment for staff, members, and visitors alike.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and repair of all facilities and building systems across an aging multi-structure campus.
- Supervise custodial and maintenance staff; coordinate schedules to support routine operations and religious, cultural, and community programming.
- Manage HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related systems to ensure safe and efficient performance.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and ensure timely inspections.
- Partner with internal leaders and service providers to support physical and network infrastructure, including connectivity, server rooms, and equipment inventory.
Security & Safety
- Oversee building security systems, including cameras, alarms, and access control.
- Coordinate with security partners on coverage, threat assessments, and emergency protocols.
- Ensure compliance with local building, fire, and safety codes.
- Maintain emergency preparedness plans and conduct drills and inspections.
Capital Planning & Project Management
- Manage capital projects ranging from minor upgrades to major repairs on aging structures, including structural, mechanical, and envelope improvements.
- Coordinate contractor, vendor, and consultant activities to ensure high-quality project execution.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and safety standards.
- Provide updates to senior leadership and lay stakeholders on project design and progress.
Vendor & Budget Management
- Oversee relationships with contractors, vendors, and service providers.
- Collaborate with finance staff on facilities budget planning and expense management.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiency, sustainability, and cost savings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with program operations leadership to ensure maintenance and capital work align with program schedules.
- Jointly support custodial and site supervision teams, with clear prioritization of event versus maintenance needs.
- Partner on safety, security, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–10 years of comprehensive facilities management experience, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
- Experience managing older or aging buildings, including the challenges associated with legacy infrastructure.
- Experience supervising maintenance or custodial staff.
- Knowledge of building safety, security, and emergency protocols; familiarity with New York City regulatory requirements preferred.
- Ability to secure required certifications within 60 days of hire (FDNY Certificates of Fitness; Fire & Life Safety Director certification preferred).
- Demonstrated experience managing capital projects.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, facilities management systems, and budgeting tools.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays in support of programs or emergencies.
Preferred, not required:
- Associate’s degree or higher
- Professional facilities credentials (e.g., IFMA CFM or FMP; BOMA certifications)
- Spanish proficiency
