Job Title: Industrial Manufacturing Project Engineer
Location: Onsite – Pontiac, IL
Contract duration: 12 months with strong potential to extend or convert
Job Summary
Seeking a Manufacturing Engineer 4 (Industrial Manufacturing Project Engineer) to support large-scale manufacturing operations through process optimization, lean transformation, and capacity planning initiatives. This role focuses on improving end-to-end material flow, increasing throughput, reducing waste, and driving operational efficiency across the production value stream. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in lean manufacturing, project management, and industrial engineering within a manufacturing environment, along with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and lead continuous improvement efforts. This is a full-time onsite role within a production facility environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design, analyze, and optimize material and process flows across manufacturing operations
- Drive throughput improvements by reducing bottlenecks, lead times, and work-in-progress inventory
- Lead value stream mapping activities and implement future-state process improvements
- Monitor and improve operational KPIs including throughput, delivery performance, lead time, and capacity utilization
- Lead lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving methodologies such as A3 and DMAIC
- Support digital transformation initiatives including KPI digitization, workflow automation, and integration of autonomous robotics
- Develop staffing models, workforce planning strategies, and labor utilization improvements aligned with production demand
- Coordinate with production, maintenance, supply chain, quality, and finance teams to align operational priorities
- Act as a technical lead and operational influencer across cross-functional teams
- Support capacity assessments and manufacturing process transformation initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
- 8–10 years of manufacturing or industrial engineering experience required
- Strong experience with capacity planning, production systems, and manufacturing process optimization
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience managing or leading projects within manufacturing operations
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Experience with workflow automation tools such as Power Apps
- Data analytics experience with the ability to generate actionable operational insights
- Working knowledge of AI tools and digital manufacturing initiatives
- CAD experience required
- MODAPTS certification required
- Leadership or team guidance experience preferred
- Strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing facility environment
- Comfortable managing ambiguity and shifting operational priorities
