Job Title: Dev/Research Engineer 3
Location: Onsite – Lafayette, IN
Contract duration: 24 months with strong potential to extend or convert
Job Summary
We are seeking a Dev/Research Engineer 3 to support field data acquisition hardware kit builds within a testing and validation lab environment. This role focuses on assembling, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining data acquisition kits used to support product development across multiple engineering lifecycle phases. The position requires strong hands-on electrical skills, the ability to interpret schematics, and experience working with communication protocols used in embedded or data acquisition systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble data acquisition hardware kits according to engineering specifications
- Procure components and manage inventory for kit builds and lab operations
- Troubleshoot, clean, refurbish, and rebuild returned field kits
- Validate completed kits to ensure performance and functional compliance
- Build and install configuration files for data logger systems prior to shipment
- Document kit builds, configurations, and unit history for tracking and compliance
- Ship completed kits to global field locations for data collection and testing
- Maintain lab inventory for both new and returned equipment with accurate records
- Support continuous improvement of kit build and return processes
- Collaborate daily with engineering team leads on assigned tasks and projects
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
- 5 years of relevant engineering or hands-on technical experience
- Strong electrical hands-on experience (wiring, soldering, multimeters, drills)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and build wiring harnesses
- Experience with CAN communication protocols (J1939, CAN CCP, or serial bus systems)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a lab team environment
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Strong time management and task prioritization abilities
Additional Notes
- Master’s degree or higher considered overqualified for this role
- Must be comfortable working full-time on-site in a testing lab environment
- Role includes hands-on hardware assembly and configuration work rather than design-only engineering
- Occasional travel required (0–25%), primarily within Lafayette, IN or related field sites
Preferred / Acceptable Experience
- Internship experience may count if paired with at least 3 years of relevant real-world experience (minimum 2 years electrical-focused internship 3 years professional work)
