Telecom Technician
Location: Orlando, Lake Buena Vista, & Winter Garden, FL
We are seeking an experienced Senior Communications Electronics Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of advanced communications and networking systems across multiple field locations in the Central Florida area. This role is ideal for candidates with strong telecommunications, radio, fiber optics, or military electronics experience.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, maintain, and troubleshoot communications and electronic systems
- Support fiber optic, microwave, packet radio, SONET, DWDM, VOIP, wireless radio, and networking infrastructure
- Diagnose and repair transport systems, PBXs, routers, switches, antenna systems, and power equipment
- Read and interpret schematics, construction packages, and functional diagrams
- Utilize advanced testing equipment including OTDR, FTDR, oscilloscopes, communication service monitors, and network analyzers
- Work independently and collaboratively in field and team environments
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities and repairs
- Travel between local work sites as needed
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics or related technical field OR equivalent civilian/military electronics training
- 5 years of hands-on experience installing and maintaining communications/electronics systems
- Experience with several of the following:
- Fiber optics
- Microwave and packet radio systems
- SONET/DWDM transport systems
- PBX and VOIP systems
- Two-way radio and wireless networking
- Networking equipment including routers and switches
- Antenna systems and grounding
- UPS, batteries, rectifiers, and inverters
- Ability to read electronic schematics and technical documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Valid Florida Class D Driver License
Preferred Qualifications
- FCC General Radio/Telephone Operator License (may be obtained during onboarding)
- Military communications or electronics background
- Experience working with radio systems and field communications infrastructure
Additional Information
- Company vehicle may be assigned based on business needs
- Candidates may occasionally use personal vehicles for travel between sites
- Hand tools may be required
- Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated environments, and from bucket trucks
- Must be able to carry tools and testing equipment as needed
