The emergency department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with board certified physicians and advanced level practitioners who are well-trained to treat emergency needs. MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Public Health.

As a Registered Occupational Therapist at MercyOne, you will plan, administer, implement, and evaluate occupational therapy for all appropriate programs and services within the PM&R department, for all patient age groups. Possesses the skills necessary to provide direct patient care specific to each age group in accordance with department protocol. The age of the patients served range in age from infants to geriatrics.

- Must be able to function as an occupational therapist in all commonly practiced aspects of patient evaluation and treatment appropriate for the assigned age group.
- Must have ability to give clear instructions to individuals and groups ranging from infant to geriatric.
- Must have ability to plan day-to-day activities and work independently.
- Must be able to put patients at ease and make them comfortable.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to effectively work with other hospital employees and guests.
- Registration through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NCBOT)
- Bachelor’s Degree Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) by the State of Iowa to practice as an Occupational Therapist.
