Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brand Mercedes-Benz. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC has invested more than 500 million U.S. dollars in the new Sprinter plant, which officially opened in 2018. Today the MBV facility provides more than 1,600 jobs and supports at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers. More than 200,000 Sprinter and Metris vans have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations across the U.S. since 2006. Therefore, MBV celebrates a 15-year legacy of SKD production in 2021. The U.S. is the second largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany.

Job Overview:
The Security and Fire Protection Specialist is responsible for leading security, fire protection, and Crisis Management services in support of plant operations and construction activities to ensure the reduction of risk, and the protection of property, assets and people.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement security policies and programs, and work with all levels within the organization to address security and fire protection related concerns, problems and solutions.
- Manage location ACS (Access Control) /CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) /IDS (Intrusion Detection) Systems. Oversees third party security service providers operation of these systems.
- Comply with all insurance, corporate and regulatory standards applicable to security and fire protection.
- Establish and install key controls on communication / surveillance equipment and property access.
- Provide daily support, troubleshooting and execution of security and fire protection system technologies.
- Monitor alarm systems around buildings and property.
- Develop security plans to meet current and changing situations.
- Ensure effective access control measures, both exterior and interior.
- Manage contract security service activities, systems, traffic control, patrols, investigate theft and vandalism, and provide recommendations on remedial actions as necessary.
- Conduct security and vulnerability assessments.
- Manage and coordinate the fire safety, fire protection, inspection and testing, prevention and suppression of systems and technologies.
- Manage and coordinate the Plant Crisis Management Policy and response.
- Manage and coordinate the Emergency Response related to High Voltage Batteries
- Maintain and update a property loss and prevention program.
- Respond and assist with emergency operations on a 24 hour on call basis to include severe weather conditions and disaster preparedness.
- Respond to active threat and workplace violence situations.
- Plan, prepare and conduct security and fire protection/response training.
- Coordinate emergency drills within plant and with local responders (Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement).
- Work closely with fire marshals, fire inspectors, fire protection consultants, building code engineers and loss prevention professionals.
- Explores opportunities to add value to meeting organizational goals and operate within budgets, reduce cost and waste where feasible.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and participating in professional organizations.
- Acts as SSO (Site Security Officer) and FPO (Fire Protection Officer) for location and Liaison with Mercedes-Benz Corporate Security for all related tasks and new process implementation.
- Ability to respond to location emergencies 24/7
- Perform all work activities in a safe manner and incorporate best safety practices with team members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Security, Emergency Management, Safety Management, or a related area or the equivalent combination of education and or experience.
- 5 years’ security and fire protection experience in a manufacturing environment
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) desirable.
- Familiar with applicable NFPA Fire Protection System, Life Safety standards and OSHA standards.
- Familiar with security and fire protection system design standards.
- People skills, operational proficiency, surveillance skills, analyzing information, tracking budget expenses, scheduling, handles pressure, able to deal with change and complexity.
- Emergency response: fire protection systems; fire response teams
- Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels of the organization and externally to interested parties.
- Sound judgement and decision making skills, with a “hands on”, problem solving approach, able to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents.
