Job Overview:
Manages the safety, productivity, training, morale, and security of a CI workshop Group. Implement & co-ordinate all CI Workshop processes. Monitors the CI Workshop’s performance, manage & allocate manpower and strengthen and develop the lean manufacturing principles. Preparation of training documents for team member development and MBV training programs (ex. 5S, MPS standards, etc) as well as the execution of training courses

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brand Mercedes-Benz. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC has invested more than 500 million U.S. dollars in the new Sprinter plant, which officially opened in 2018. Today the MBV facility provides more than 1,600 jobs and supports at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers. More than 260,000 Sprinter and Metris vans have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations across the U.S since 2006. In 2021, the plant celebrated its 15-year legacy of SKD production in South Carolina.

Job Overview:

Responsibilities:
- Acts as the technical and disciplinary lead of the group.
- Develops best practices to improve CI Workshop’s production capacity, quality and reliability
- Oversees discipline, attendance evaluations, job scope, and performance reviews for CI Workshop team members
- Provides guidance to CI Workshop team members in order to continuously improve hard & soft skills
- Provides input for budget preparation and monitor expenses
- Manage and lead shopfloor mgmt. duties (DMM, team boards, Dept. standards)
- Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Plans, controls, and approves vacation, employee shifts, qualifications, and schedules.
- Develop and conduct manufacturing concept trainings in classroom and shopfloor environments (MPS basics, NLC, Training Island, 5S etc.)
- Develop & implement CI Workshop area improvements (layout, process, equipment, etc.) along with coordinating all needed material
- Contribute in establishing roles of responsibilities of CI Workshop and supporting VS30 project execution in body-, paint-, assembly shop while ensuring compliance to quality management standards at MBV
- Drive standardization efforts at MBV across all departments & track CI projects and -KPIs
- Develop standards, establish processes, and grow / maintain plant wide 5S system
- Obtain training credentials to be certified to evaluate ergonomic opportunities at MBV
- Performs a variety of complicated tasks relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings
- Will perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Multiple team leaders reporting to the Group Leader
- Responsibility for typically 5 associates in the CI workshop.
- Project management and work shop involvement
- Bachelor's Degree with a background in Engineering / Business or in a related field required. 5-7 years of experience
- Internal Employees: Completed successfully PV-45 or currently fulfilling position of Group Leader
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles. Experience in applying/exercising Mercedes Production System (or industry equivalent TPS) methodologies. Successfully completed Lean Advisor training or equivalent external credentials.
- Proven written and verbal communication at all levels within the organization with good negotiation skills. Able to anticipate needs and deliver timely, relevant solutions and actions.
- Highly flexible individual with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Strong interpersonal skills required. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
