What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trailer Technician position at Melton Truck Lines?
Summary: The Trailer Technician performs heavy-duty trailer repair work according to Melton standards and Department of Transportation regulations.
The shift for this position is Monday-Friday 7am to 4pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties as assigned.
- Performs and/or assists in the performance of general mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on Melton's fleet of flatbed trailers.
- Responsible for frame repair, brake replacement, suspension work, minor electrical work, and trailer deck repair.
- Complete paperwork as required to accurately document the work performed on vehicles.
- Safely move trailers in and out of the shop and around the yard.
- Performs trouble shooting on major problems.
- Maintains a neat and orderly working area, and proper handling of company tools.
- Advises the Leadman/Shop Foreman if additional repair work is needed.
- Follows safety practices and shop regulations.
Qualifications
- One year heavy truck or trailer repair experience or equivalent schooling.
- Necessary tools to perform position responsibilities.
- Welding experience.
- CDL preferred
- Physical requirements include:

- Ability to work alone and under stress.
- Walking, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, twisting and reaching.
- Lifting 75 pounds or more, sometimes shoulder height and above.
- Ability to use pneumatic tools.
- Using hands, wrists, elbows and shoulder for repetitive motion tasks.
- Ability to work in seasonal heat and cold; amidst noise and dust.
