Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our on-site team in Chicago. This role plays a key part in supporting operational and scientific excellence by ensuring our financial processes remain accurate, efficient, and aligned with the demands of a rapidly evolving biotech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate general ledger records and prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Track R&D expenses, project costs, grants, and specialized biotech-related expenditures.
- Manage accounts payable/receivable and vendor relationships, including scientific suppliers, labs, and partner organizations.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial models used by both operational and scientific teams.
- Collaborate closely with on-site research, operations, and leadership teams to ensure accurate cost allocation and financial transparency.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and industry-specific reporting requirements.
- Support annual audits and help strengthen internal controls as the company scales.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and contribute to continuous improvement of financial operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting best practices.
- Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP) and Excel.
- Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work fully on-site at our Chicago headquarters and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
