We are seeking an R&D Scientist and Project Coordinator to support, organize, and track activities across our R&D and analytical laboratories. This is a hands-on scientific role with primary coordination responsibilities, ensuring that research and formulation efforts are properly tracked, prioritized, and completed efficiently.

This individual will work closely with the Lead Formulation Scientist, analytical chemists, and R&D leadership to ensure projects are properly prioritized, resourced and tracked through testing and production readiness. The role also involves preparing executive-level reporting to keep leadership informed of project progress, outcomes, and risks.
What You'll Do

  • Maintain and regularly update the R&D project tracker, providing leadership with full visibility into workloads, progress, and testing status.
  • Prepare executive-level progress reports summarizing key developments, testing outcomes, and risks.
  • Support R&D and analytical meetings by capturing follow-up items, deadlines, and next steps.
  • Identify resource or equipment needs that may affect project timelines and communicate promptly to leadership.

Scientific Support:
  • Conduct or assist with formulation experiments, sample preparation, and analytical testing (HPLC, dissolution, stability, etc.) under the guidance of senior scientists.
  • Support method development, validation, and stability testing in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of laboratory procedures, data, and results.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and documentation practices in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with R&D and analytical teams to interpret experimental data and summarize results for review

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with QA, Regulatory, and Production teams to ensure R&D and analytical timelines align with organizational priorities.
  • Assist with the transition of formulations and analytical methods from development to production scale.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between scientific teams and other departments, promoting transparency and consistency in project execution.
  • Partner with procurement and facilities teams to track laboratory supply and equipment needs

Continuous Improvement:
  • Support the implementation of standardized documentation, reporting, and communication tools to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
  • Recommend improvements to workflow, documentation, and project management processes to streamline R&D operations.
  • Contribute to an environment that promotes collaboration, accountability, and scientific rigor

Education:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related scientific field Experience:
  • 3–6 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D, analytical chemistry, or formulation science.

Skills:
  • Strong organizational and project coordination abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for documenting and reporting scientific progress.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory operations and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, or other project tracking tools.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable balancing lab work with coordination responsibilities.

Perks:
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • 100% company-paid Medical, Dental, and Vision premium coverage for employees, plus Short-Term Disability and Life Insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Complimentary daily lunch provided on-site.

Work Environment:
  • This is a full-time, in-office and in-lab position based at our Elmhurst compounding pharmacy facility (5 days per week).
  • Requires adherence to laboratory safety, documentation, and compliance protocols.
  • Frequent collaboration with formulation scientists, analytical chemists, QA, and production teams.
