Clinical Pharmacist – Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS)

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Pharmacist – Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) to lead initiatives that promote the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of anti-infective medications while helping reduce antimicrobial resistance across the organization.

Position Summary:

As the Clinical Pharmacist – AMS, you will coordinate and lead the organization's antimicrobial stewardship program, partnering with physicians, nurses, infection prevention, and other multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. This role serves as the subject matter expert for antimicrobial therapy, develops clinical protocols and order sets, participates in patient care rounds, and provides education to healthcare professionals, pharmacy residents, and students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate antimicrobial stewardship initiatives across the health system.
• Optimize antimicrobial therapy to ensure safe, effective, timely, and patient-centered care.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve clinical outcomes and reduce antimicrobial resistance.
• Develop and maintain clinical protocols, order sets, and pharmacy policies related to infectious diseases and antimicrobial use.
• Participate in multidisciplinary patient care rounds and provide clinical consultation.
• Monitor quality metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Educate providers, pharmacists, residents, students, and staff on antimicrobial stewardship best practices.
• Create and deliver medication-related education for clinicians and the community.
• Serve as the pharmacy liaison for assigned patient care areas, supporting quality, safety, and patient satisfaction initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university; Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.
• Current North Carolina Pharmacist License.
• Completion of an accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or at least 2 years of equivalent clinical pharmacy experience.
• PGY2 Residency in Infectious Diseases preferred.
• Board Certification and SIDP Certification (required within 12 months of hire if a PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency has not been completed).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and teaching skills.
• Thorough knowledge of pharmacy terminology, clinical procedures, policies, and quality measures.
• Strong ability to collaborate with and lead multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• BLS and ACLS certification required within 120 days of hire (or the first available organizational course, whichever occurs later).
• Ability to work in an environment with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Typical hours:

• M-F
• 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
• Every 4th weekend
