PB GI Surgery Coder ResponsibilitiesAccurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient surgical procedures across multiple specialtiesPerform coding audits to identify missed revenue, compliance risks, and coding trendsProvide virtual coding and documentation education to physicians and practice managersReview clinical documentation and payer policies to ensure timely and accurate reimbursementConduct research and data analysis on coding and billing issues, recommending process improvementsDevelop educational materials and resources for providers and junior codersStay current with coding guidelines, regulations, and specialty-specific requirementsCollaborate with physicians and clinical staff to resolve coding-related questions and discrepanciesSupport department restructuring initiatives and assist in onboarding/training new codersRequired Skills2-5 years of PB coding experience, ideally in gastroenterology or general surgeryAt least 1 year of experience with GI surgeries Proficient in CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codingDetail-oriented with strong accuracyExcellent communication and teamwork skillsCPC, COC, or equivalent certification preferredMUST HAVE PB EXPERIENCE not just outpatient Preferred SkillsFamiliarity with payer-specific rules for outpatient gastroenterology and general surgery.Experience handling prior authorizations, medical necessity queries, and claim audits.Ability to train or mentor less experienced coders.Schedule/ShiftM-F Flex hours but for training about 2 weeks of 8am-4:30pmFor California Applicants:We will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable federal, state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance (FCIHO), Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (ULAC), The San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (FCO) , and the California Fair Chance Act (CFCA).This position is subject to a background check based on its job duties, which may include patient care, working with vulnerable populations, access to financial and confidential information, driving, working with heavy machinery, or working in a warehouse or laboratory environment.
