Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Park Superintendent, this position manages all human resources functions for Mecosta County Parks and supports event planning, scheduling, and marketing efforts in coordination with park operations leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources
- Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard seasonal staff
- Process new hire paperwork, background checks, physicals, and drug testing
- Coordinate staff training, safety training, payroll submission, and recordkeeping
- Track unemployment claims and maintain confidentiality
- Provide employee coaching, conflict resolution, and assist with disciplinary actions
- Manage staff uniforms and recommend employee recognition initiatives
Events & Marketing
- Plan, schedule, and help execute park events and weekly activities
- Coordinate event materials, supplies, and logistics
- Create marketing graphics for events, job postings, and operations
- Promote parks through social media and update Parks and Dragon Trail websites
Administrative
- Provide customer service at the Parks Administration Office
- Answer phones, assist the public, and receive park revenues
- Ensure incidents and accidents are properly reported
- Attend meetings and travel to park and county locations as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
- Knowledge of HR administration, payroll, event coordination, social media, and office operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Valid Michigan driver's license and ability to pass background screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in HR, business, parks & recreation, hospitality, or related field
- 5 years of employee management or administrative experience
- Knowledge of labor laws and payroll systems
