Summary: Operate manual machines in a productive and safe manner to product parts that meet quality requirements at the lowest cost in a timely manner while minimizing waste of materials and resources. As a manual level A machinist, a higher level of responsibility is given to ensure products are completed in a timely and accurate fashion as well as an involvement with your team in a positive and productive manner.

Responsibilities And Duties Include
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and hand tools
- Study blueprints, drawings or ideas to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate the products
- Communicate with other members of the staff to understand, visualize and determine the needs of the produced product
- Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Focus on continuously improving and maintaining of 5S program to include finding homes for things and general organization of the shop
- Make recommendation for trying new tooling, adjust tools and replace as needed
- Work with leads to maintain all tooling so that adequate supplies are in stock, organized and available when needed.
- Perform basic maintenance of machines as required and keep supervisors informed of necessary maintenance beyond minimal operator ability
- Must read and understand layouts, job packets and blue prints for parts being run (including geometric tolerance). This includes understanding of dimensions and tolerances of finished parts
- Provide accurate inventory counts at all time and keep parts in appropriate parts storage areas
- Collect and input SPC data, which involves the use of comparator, CMM, gages and related test instruments
- Accountability for following DSI’s written quality procedures
- Seeking out additional tasks to help the overall team to complete a project
- Follow set-up procedures or create procedures for repeat jobs
- Will be involved with and perform pre-production and program prove-outs related to changes in new products and tooling
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories or materials onto machines
- Must continuously perform at a high level on both quality and quantity when necessary
- Recognize problem processes and/or unsafe set-ups and recommend alternatives
- Provide peer training, coaching and assistance to other operators
- Work as a team member to aid all shifts and support personnel to operate to departmental standards including quality and productivity goals
- Record all data in epicor and track parts relating to jobs and processes correctly
- Other duties as assigned
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Two year degree in Machining Technology or Machining trade school and four years of years of manual machining experience in milling or turning or 6 years of Manual Machining experience. May be a combination of schooling and education
- Ability to read and understand complex parts with little data and operational layouts as required
- Ability to set up new parts following blue print instructions
- Prepare working sketches for illustration of the product and necessary materials/tooling
- Work in a manner that is expedient and while utilizing the full machines capabilities
- Take on additional tasks to help the team achieve desired goals with little or no supervision
- Consistently look for ways to improve a current process, make recommendations based on machining knowledge or seek outside resources to obtain further knowledge
- The “go to person” for complex and difficult parts
- Ability to perform high level manual machine functions
- Understand tooling requirements to set-up and operate machines in the department, including select and align tooling, fixtures and attachments for machining
- Ability to troubleshoot effectively and efficiently with little (if any) guidance from lead to avoid downtime of machines.
- Ability to perform a sequence of operations without supervision and consistently maintain the performance levels set for quality and quantity
- Understanding of safety rules and regulations to prevent unsafe set-ups, operations, or acts which might cause injury to self, others, environment or equipment
- Proactively engage in a working relationship with other members of the team
- Ability to work through daily operational activities
- Ability to plan effectively and execute the plans
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Able to lift 25 pounds or more daily and over 25 pounds occasionally
- Ability to push or pull over 25 pounds daily or over 25 pounds occasionally
