POSITION: Landscape Architect in Training
DISCIPLINE: Landscape Architecture
ACCOUNTABLE TO : Department Director
SALARY STATUS: Non -Exempt , Starting Salary Range $65 ,000 – $85,000
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Responsible for the conceptual development, technical design, and detailed documentation of exterior environments. This role requires a professional capable of managing the integration of regenerative site systems, green infrastructure, and complex planting designs. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between creative vision and technical execution, ensuring all projects meet high standards for climate resilience, biodiversity, and human wellness.
Typical Responsibilities
The Landscape Designer has the authority to assist the Licensed Landscape Architect in translating complex project requirements into technical drawings. They are empowered to research and recommend innovative materials and sustainable construction methods that align with the firm’s regenerative design goals.
Relationship To Others
The Designer assists the Registered Landscape Architect in incorporating the project goals and constraints, including client values and objectives, construction and design budget limitations, and schedule requirements
into the design. The Designer supports the project team in balancing client objectives with environmental stewardship. They serve as a vital link between the conceptual vision and the technical execution .
Knowledge & Experience Required
Must be able to work in a collaborative studio environment, as wel l as perform on -site field observations and construction administration (which may involve walking uneven terrain). Must be able to work under pressure with tight deadlines and must be willing and able to work beyond the regular work day which may include evening and weekend work. Regular attendance is essential. Must be able to provide mathematical reasoning and have strong spatial reasoning with the ability to solve complex site -specific puzzles, such as reconciling significant grade changes with accessibility requirements. Must be able to communicate design intent clearly through both visual (sketching/rendering) and verbal means.

Typical Responsibilities
- Lead the design and layout of landscape architectural systems including complex landform grading, Low Impact Development (LID) storm water management, and high -performance hardscape surfaces.
- Utilize CAD and BIM (Building Information Modeling) software to develop landscape systems within 3D models and produce comprehensive construction documents.
- Support the creation of high -level visualizations and renderings for client presentations and community engagement efforts.
- Draft and edit technical specifications for living systems (nursery stock, soil amendments) and non -living systems (paving, site furniture, lighting).
- Ensure all designs incorporate local zoning codes, ADA/Universal Design accessibility standards, and sustainability frameworks such as LEED, or WELL .
- Participate in Plan submissions to the AHJ including watershed districts.
- Actively participate in multi -disciplinary project meetings, coordinating landscape designs with civil engineers, architects, and ecologists to ensure site ecology and infrastructure are seamlessly integrated.
- Coordinate Landscape designs with other disciplines and consultants to ensure a quality project.
- Performs such other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

- Must possess a professional degree from an accredited Landscape Architecture program (BLA or MLA).
- Experience: 3 –10 years of professional experience in a landscape architecture or multi -disciplinary design firm, with a proven track record in project production and site design.
- Must be on track toward professional licensure (PLA/RLA). Active progress on the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE) is required.
- Advanced proficiency in Autocad (Adobe Creative Suite and Revit and Rhino experience a plus , but not required) .
