We are seeking a skilled Mill Turn Set-Up Machinist with a strong background to join our manufacturing team. This position is integral to ensuring efficient setup and optimization to meet production goals related to quality, quantity, and cycle time.
Job Description
The Mill Turn Set-Up Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating machining processes to produce high-quality components that meet customer specifications.
The ideal candidate will have experience with mill-turn machine setup and precision measurement, along with a strong understanding of manufacturing principles. Success in this role requires a collaborative team player who brings a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to continuous improvement. The candidate should be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of retaining and applying technical information effectively.
This position is well suited for individuals who enjoy solving technical challenges and take pride in seeing parts progress from initial setup through final production. The role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the manufacturing process while ensuring quality, efficiency, and precision at every stage.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete machine tear-downs and full mill-turn setups with the efficiency and precision expected of a skilled machinist.
- Set up and accurately establish offsets for turning tools, radial and axial live tooling, and properly indicate tooling.
- Change and install collets, chucks, bar liners, and make necessary bar feeder adjustments to support production requirements.
- Load machining programs and conduct thorough dry runs to verify setup integrity
- Submit first-article parts to the Quality department and work collaboratively to resolve any issues identified during inspection.
- Partner with engineering teams on CNC program revisions and process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Adjust feeds, speeds, and tooling parameters as needed to optimize cycle times while maintaining part quality.
- Perform in-process inspections in accordance with established quality standards and requirements.
- Conduct routine machine maintenance, clear machine jams, and troubleshoot mechanical, tooling, and process-related issues.
- Maintain machines for chip removal, monitoring fluid levels and ensuring a safe and organized work area.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining, specifically in mill-turn setups and operation for production runs
- Experience with Eurotech, CMZ, Nakamura, Doosan, Mori Seiki/DMG
- Hands-on experience with Fanuc controls. Siemens experience is a plus.
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and GD&T requirements.
- Demonstrated expertise with inspection instruments such as calipers, micrometers, pin gages and thread gages
- Proven track record of optimizing processes for lights-out manufacturing.
- Strong collaborative mindset with experience in training or mentoring junior machinists
- Solid work ethic and reliability
- Team player with a positive mindset
- Completion of trade school or a certificate in advanced machining is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of programming by hand in G & M-Code
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR compliance requirements.
Pay: $28.00 - $30.72 per hour
