The School of Nursing seeks a full-time faculty member and Associate/Assistant Dean to oversee the delivery of high-quality learning experiences and education for students on the Boston Campus. The School of Nursing delivers the BSN program across three campuses (Boston, Worcester and Manchester, NH). The BSN program is accredited as one program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In this role, the faculty member will engage in the oversight of teaching and learning congruent with the other two campuses, as well as service and scholarship activities appropriate to rank, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University as well as with the Dean and Chief Nurse Administrator.

Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact, and reputation of the University and its programs through research and scholarly engagement. The selected candidate will have responsibilities overseeing the teaching and learning on the Boston Campus in collaboration with the Dean, along with academic policies, curriculum delivery, faculty recruitment and retention, and other specified responsibilities congruent with the administrative role. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

  • Reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing.
  • Supports the day-to-day management on the Boston campus in collaboration with the Dean, administers MCPHS and School of Nursing policies and procedures.
  • Promotes professional development of the faculty.
  • Develops, coordinates, and maintains relationships with internal and external constituencies.
  • Recruits, interviews, and recommends prospective core faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff.
  • Recruits, advises, and counsels students; mediates problems between students and faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Dean, develops and implements an annual plan for teaching workload responsibilities for the designated campus.
  • In collaboration with the Dean, evaluates faculty and staff performance.
  • Participates in the development of accreditation reports related to the undergraduate programs in collaboration with the Dean.
  • In collaboration with the Dean and other SON team members, drafts Board of Nursing annual reports.
  • Collaborates within the School of Nursing as well as within the University schools/programs to develop and implement innovative interprofessional education for the BSN program.
  • Leads/supports SON shared governance committees and participates in university-wide committees as requested.
  • Assumes a leadership role in the implementation of the SON Strategic Plan.
  • Assists the dean in preparing, recommending, and administering the SON budget.
  • Drafts and submits appropriate reports to SON and university-wide committees as requested.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the systematic evaluation plan for all components of the program.

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Minimum degree required for this role is PhD, DNP or DHS
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in academic and relevant clinical practice
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the college/university level
  • Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals)
  • Record of scholarly activities commensurate with an academic appointment
  • Evidence of teaching excellence

  • Typical office or administrative working conditions. Faculty is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical
  • Work requires sitting, standing and walking as part of classroom instruction.
  • Must be able to use technology, such as typing and manipulating a mouse/mouse pad
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
