GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Shuttle Driver safely transports students, employees, and visitors to designated locations across the community college campus. This role provides reliable, timely service while maintaining a courteous and professional environment. This position also ensures the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and operated in accordance with campus safety guidelines. The Shuttle Driver receives immediate supervision from the Chief of Police and exercises no supervision.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position, and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Knowledge of: 1. Campus layout, including buildings, classrooms, and key travel routes; 2. Basic traffic laws, safe-driving practices, and transportation safety procedures; 3. Customer service principles and professional communication standards; Skills in: 4. Safe and efficient operation of shuttle vehicles and golf carts; 5. Time management to maintain consistent route schedules; 6. Leadership and sound judgment when interacting with passengers; 7. Clear verbal communication and courteous customer service; 8. Navigating campus roads and adjusting routes as needed; Ability to: 9. Follow instructions and respond promptly to transportation requests; 10. Anticipate passenger needs and next steps in service delivery; 11. Operate and maintain a 15-passenger shuttle and/or golf cart; 12. Perform routine safety checks and report mechanical issues; 13. Remain calm and professional in high-traffic or changing situations; 14. Work independently with minimal supervision; 15. Assist passengers safely, including those with mobility needs; 16. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g., for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard-Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors are present. There is occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency and severity are limited.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
Experience: No experience required
Special Requirement: Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College's automobile insurance policy.
