Job Summary
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be well-versed in the construction industry as well as highly driven to tackle new business opportunities. You must have experience of building new client relationships and expanding market opportunities across our region. The BD Manager will serve as a visible ambassador of the McFarland brand cultivating strong relationships across public agencies, corporate clients, developers, engineers, and industry partners. This individual must be hungry, humble, and smart, results-oriented, and capable of operating both independently and collaboratively within a growth-focused team.
Key Responsibilities include:
Business Development & Networking
- Leverage an existing network of public-sector and corporate decision-makers.
- Proactively expand the firms reach beyond existing contacts and client lists.
- Represent McFarland Construction at industry events, conferences, trade organizations, and community functions.
- Regularly schedule and host client entertainment, including after-hours engagements (dinners, receptions, sporting events, etc.).
- Engage in industry and community organizations, ensuring consistent and meaningful visibility.
Strategic Growth & Opportunity Management
- Support the development and execution of regional growth plans aligned with company strategy.
- Collaborate with marketing, preconstruction, and operations teams to pursue targeted opportunities.
- Identify and qualify prospects, track pipeline opportunities, and coordinate follow-ups.
- Gather competitive intelligence and market insights to aid in proposal strategy, positioning, and client cultivation.
Brand Representation
- Represent McFarland Construction with professionalism and strong personal presence.
- Promote McFarlands brand consistently through personal outreach, networking and community involvement.
- Cultivate long-term relationships by providing reliable follow-through and value-added communication.
Education & Additional Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, and or Construction Management
- 5 years of business development, client relations, or sales experience within construction or construction-related professional services.
- Demonstrated success executing a strategic direction and working collaboratively with technical teams.
- Proven record of gathering and sharing market intelligence to support proposals and client strategy.
- Ability to travel freely throughout our footprint and surrounding markets.
- Self-starter who can manage their own calendar and stay consistently active in the market.
- Reliable follow-through and commitment to meeting targets and deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
