Summary: We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Civil Litigation team. The position involves assisting attorneys in case management, including drafting pleadings, communicating with courts and clients, and providing clerical and administrative support. We provide all the training needed to succeed and pride ourselves on fostering a team environment that will give Legal Assistants the ability to grow and gradually take on tasks of increasing responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with file handling tasks including file opening, drafting pleadings, processing and preparing documents for filing and service, scheduling hearings, making travel arrangements.
- Provide courteous communication, customer service and timely assistance when interacting with other Firm staff, vendors, clients, court staff, and opposing parties.
- May perform other duties as assigned to support department goals.
- May occasionally work extended hours based on operational needs.
Experience and Skills:
- Clear communication, both written and verbal
- Ability to work both independently as well as within a team
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to pay attention to detail, follow established procedures, and take direction from attorneys
- Experience with drafting pleadings and court forms
- Experience with preparing and submitting documents for electronic filing in California state and/or federal courts
Qualifications:
- 1-5 years' experience working in a law office as a legal assistant or paralegal preferred. Experience working in a non-law related office environment will also be considered.
- Paralegal training or certification preferable but not required
Work Schedule:
The work week is typically Monday through Friday, with business hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Employees are required to be onsite 2-3 days per week following a 90-day training period and upon management approval.
Salary Range:
The hourly rate for this position typically ranges from $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, experience, and other factors. Please note that the final offer may differ based on the candidate's specific qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity and business needs.
