Senior Director of Programs (Aerospace)
Our client, a leader in advanced aerospace and defense systems, is seeking a Senior Director of Programs to lead the strategy, execution, and financial performance of a portfolio of complex programs.
This executive role oversees programs across development through full-rate production (FRP), ensuring alignment with business objectives, customer requirements, and operational capacity. The position serves as a key interface with DoD stakeholders, prime contractors, and internal leadership while driving disciplined execution and scalable processes.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Portfolio Leadership
- Own full lifecycle execution across all programs (development → production)
- Lead multi-program portfolio aligned to cost, schedule, and technical goals
- Establish governance, metrics, and reporting on program performance
- Drive prioritization, resource allocation, and risk management
Strategy & Business Integration
- Align program execution with company strategy and growth objectives
- Support capture efforts, proposals, and execution planning
- Integrate engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams
Customer & Government Interface
- Serve as executive contact for DoD, government, and prime contractors
- Lead program reviews and ensure FAR/DFARS compliance
- Oversee DCMA audits and regulatory engagements
Financial & Operational Execution
- Own portfolio P&L (revenue, margin, forecasting)
- Drive EVM, cost control, and contract execution
- Ensure readiness for LRIP/FRP, including production scaling and supplier performance
- Lead Quality alignment and ensure AS9100 compliance
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build and lead a high-performing Program Management organization
- Mentor Program Managers and cross-functional leaders
- Establish accountability, structure, and execution discipline
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- 15 years program management experience (aerospace/defense)
- 7 years leading multi-program portfolios
- Strong DoD program experience and FAR/DFARS knowledge
- Proven P&L ownership and program execution (development → production)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or MBA
- Experience with propulsion systems or advanced aerospace hardware
- PMP/PgMP certification
- Earned Value Management (EVM) experience
