The Opportunity
Role
As the Capital Transaction Analyst, you will work in a fast-paced, innovative and collaborative environment analyzing and executing strategic transactions benefitting the long-term financial strength and flexibility of MassMutual. This individual contributor role will report directly to the Head of Capital Transaction Analysis within MassMutual’s Treasury organization and will have the opportunity to:
- Collaborate across multiple teams including Corporate Development, Investment Management, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Enterprise Risk Management on key finance initiatives
- Perform financial analysis on strategic transaction opportunities and formulate recommendations to optimize financial outcomes
- Maintain and enhance the team’s analytical toolkit used to assess capital and financing implications, opportunities, and trade-offs across regulatory, rating agency, accounting, and economic frameworks
- Monitor performance and allocation of MassMutual’s corporate investment account and seed capital investments, including liquidity, investment allocation, and returns, against expectations and investment guidelines
The Capital Transaction Analyst Is a Member Of The Treasury Organization Which Is a Dynamic Team Of Individuals With Diverse Backgrounds That Are Focused On
- Balancing between maximizing value for policyholders, and maintaining a strong financial position
- Developing strategies to manage regulatory capital, operating liquidity, financial ratings and earnings
- Ideating and executing balance sheet management transactions, while consulting on M&A activity, reinsurance opportunities, and strategic investments
As the Capital Transaction Analyst, you will contribute to reporting and analytics around our use and consumption of scarce resources and deliver analysis to inform strategic decision-making:
- Provide valuable insights to the broader Treasury team, business partners, and senior leaders on use of our surplus assets and potential capital optimization opportunities
- Enable senior leaders to make informed decisions supported by robust financial analysis
- Minimize time spent on production and data manipulation activities by transforming our modeling, analytic, and reporting capabilities and implementing automation and technology where possible
- Contribute to a collaborate team culture; proactively highlight ways to improve the experience for yourself and other members of team; lead by example
- Bachelors degree
- 2 years of progressive experience in any of the following; actuarial analysis, financial planning and analysis, corporate development, management consulting, investment management, or enterprise risk management
- 1 years of experience performing financial analysis or financial optimization
- 5 years of progressive experience or obtainment of an ASA or CFA credential
- Experience in capital management, actuarial pricing, hedging and/or M&A/reinsurance
- Understanding of investments and/or asset-liability management
- Knowledge of statutory, rating agency, and/or economic capital frameworks
- Knowledge of US GAAP and statutory accounting
- Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change
- Detail-oriented with demonstrated oral and written communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity to continue learning and adding breadth and depth to understanding
- Regular meetings with the Treasury team
- Focused one-on-one meetings with your manager
