Summary
Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by processing, performing microtomy, and mounting them on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis. Responsible for training new staff and escalating issues to the Senior Technologist or Supervisor.

Essential Functions
Trains new technologists and technicians on proper procedures and techniques, evaluates new technology for clinical application, and assists in updating procedure manuals for laboratory inspections and accreditation.
Responsible for troubleshooting issues and escalating to Senior Technologists or Supervisors as necessary.
Processes, embeds, and sections tissue for slide preparation.
Embeds more complex cases that deviate from routine embedding procedures.
May perform other specialized histologic procedures such as nerve testing, enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and other advanced techniques.
Performs frozen sections as required.
Performs preventative maintenance and quality control procedures, including oiling and cleaning microtomes, cleaning processors, and changing staining solutions.
Ensures appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to maintain employee safety at all times.
Maintains case identification and ensures appropriate tracking throughout the entire process to support patient safety.
Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean, and organized work area.
