The TRIO Summer Peer Tutor provides academic support, mentorship, and encouragement to fellow TRIO Scholars during the summer session. Through peer-to-peer leadership, tutors help students strengthen executive functioning skills, develop effective study habits, and improve understanding of course content. Tutors serve as positive role models who promote academic success, persistence, and engagement with TRIO resources and services.

Peer Tutors assist students with time management, organization, note-taking, test preparation, critical thinking, and problem-solving strategies while supporting coursework in subjects where they have demonstrated academic success. In addition to tutoring responsibilities, tutors maintain accurate records, participate in required training and staff meetings, and collaborate with TRIO staff to ensure students receive comprehensive support throughout the summer.

Job Requirements:
Applicants for the TRIO Summer Peer Tutor position must be current TRIO Scholars in good standing and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Candidates must have earned a grade of B or higher in any course they wish to tutor and demonstrate a strong commitment to academic achievement, leadership, and supporting the success of fellow students. Successful candidates should possess effective study skills, including time management, organization, note-taking, and test preparation strategies, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. Tutors must be comfortable using academic technologies such as Canvas, Microsoft Office applications, and EAB Navigate. In addition, candidates must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively with students and staff. Once hired, tutors are required to complete all mandatory tutor training, participate in scheduled meetings, maintain accurate documentation, and uphold the values and mission of the TRIO Program throughout their employment.

This position is only open to current MCLA students.
