About MassArt Art Museum
Located on the campus of Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), the MassArt Art Museum (MAAM) is Boston's only free contemporary art museum. It's a place to "imagine the unimagined," and a space to experience works by visionary artists at the forefront of contemporary art. As MassArt's teaching museum, we are committed to educating and empowering the next generation of artists - both on our campus and throughout the world. MAAM is a non-collecting kunsthalle with a nearly 40-year history of hosting contemporary art exhibitions featuring professional artists from around the world. All exhibitions and public programs at MAAM are free and open to the public. MAAM is a W.A.G.E.-certified museum.

About the Position
Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Groups and Tours Coordinator supports MAAM's expanding groups and tours program and fosters relationships with key stakeholders at MassArt and beyond. Both guided and self-guided, group visit experiences at MAAM invite participants to forge deeper connections with the art on view and with each other. The Groups and Tours Coordinator plans and facilitates in-gallery experiences that foster meaning-making for diverse learners and MAAM's priority audiences.
The primary responsibilities of the Groups and Tours Coordinator include:
- Groups and Tours Administration. Assist with the administration of the Museum's growing group and tours program, including interfacing via email and phone with groups who have requested visits to the museum (both guided and self-guided), coordinating group visit logistics, and confirming group visits via a ticketed registration system.

Group Visit Facilitation: Plan and facilitate guided group visits, both for the MassArt campus community as well as for public audiences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning developmentally-appropriate in-gallery experiences that are responsive to the goals and expectations of the group and that align with the philosophy and values that inform MAAM's approach to gallery learning.
- Facilitation of in-gallery guided group visits for groups of diverse ages, interests, skills, and abilities.
- Relationship Building: Identify relationship-building opportunities with new partners (specifically MassArt stakeholders including faculty, staff, and students) and support deepening of relationships with existing partners, as related to the groups and tours program and academic engagement more broadly.
- Evaluation. Assist with the evaluation and documentation of the group and tours program, including sending post-visit surveys, documenting the number of group visit participants, and regular reporting.
- Assist with MAAM team-related tasks as assigned.
This is a contract, part-time, in-person position; the Groups and Tours Coordinator is expected to work on average 19.75 hours per week.
Requirements:
The ideal Groups and Tours Coordinator possesses the following qualifications and core competencies:
Qualifications
- You have an undergraduate degree in education, art education, museum education, museum studies, or similar; or you possess an equivalent combination of skills and experience
- Administrative Experience. You have a minimum of one year of experience with basic administrative functions in a professional office environment, preferably within an arts or cultural organization.
- Object-Based Facilitation Experience: You have a minimum of one year of experience facilitating learning opportunities with art objects that centers inquiry and close looking and that invites multiple perspectives. You facilitate with skill and confidence in front of large groups of varying ages and abilities, both in-person and virtually.
- Familiarity with Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS). You have a basic understanding of Visual Thinking Strategies, an inquiry-based teaching method that aims to develop the skills of observation, critical and creative thinking, self-expression, listening, and group interaction.
- Familiarity with artmaking. You have experience with the creative process and are skilled in encouraging the creativity and artmaking of others.

- Detail-Oriented. You are exacting in your approach to organization and coordination of details and logistics.
Additional Requirements
The Groups and Tours Coordinator must be able to remain alert and active for long periods of time (1 hour or more).
