Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college, offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds. This is a part-time position with no benefits. Operating within the Career Services team and under the supervision of the Mentor Program Manager, the Specialist supports the implementation and delivery of MassBay’s centralized Mentor Program while leading STEM-focused career development initiatives. This role serves as an extension of the Mentor Program, providing career coaching, facilitating workshops, coordinating mentor and employer engagement, and supporting program operations across all majors, with a targeted focus on STEM pathways.

The Specialist will utilize technology platforms and data systems to enhance student engagement, track outcomes, and support continuous program improvement. This position is for 40 weeks with potential dates from 8/15/26 to 5/18/27.

Key Responsibilities And Duties

Mentor Program Support and Student Engagement

  • Support the implementation of the centralized Mentor Program, including student outreach, onboarding, and ongoing engagement of mentors and mentees;
  • Assist with mentor/mentee matching processes aligned with student interests, goals, and identities;
  • Provide individualized and group coaching on career readiness, professional communication, and goal setting;
  • Facilitate workshops and structured programming aligned with Mentor Program phases;
  • Support mentor program events including orientations, networking sessions, mock interviews, and career panels;
  • Maintain regular communication with program participants to ensure engagement and successful outcomes;

STEM Career Development and Programming

  • Develop and deliver STEM-focused workshops, panels, employer information sessions, and experiential learning opportunities;
  • Provide targeted career advising to students pursuing STEM pathways, including career exploration and job search preparation;
  • Build and maintain relationships with STEM employers, faculty, and community partners;
  • Promote and support participation in STEM-related programs, internships, and applied learning opportunities;
  • Support or manage STEM-specific experiential learning initiatives, including programs such as the Sanofi Experiential Learning Opportunity (SELO), including application processes, coordination with partners, and reporting;

Technology, Data Tracking, and Reporting

  • Utilize career services and mentoring platforms (e.g., Handshake, CRM systems, mentoring platforms, LinkedIn) to manage student engagement and employer connections;
  • Track student participation, mentor engagement, and program outcomes using digital tools and databases;
  • Design and administer surveys and assessments to evaluate program effectiveness;
  • Assist in preparing reports for internal use, grants, and external partners;
  • Support data-informed program improvements and operational efficiency;

Event Coordination and Employer Engagement

  • Coordinate logistics for career development and mentoring events, both in-person and virtual;
  • Conduct outreach to employers, alumni, and community partners to support mentoring and career programming;
  • Collaborate with Career Services staff, faculty, and student organizations to expand program reach and impact;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, Counseling, Human Resources, STEM-related field, or a closely related discipline. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in career services, mentoring programs, workforce development, or student support services; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;
  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
  • Master’s degree from an accredited university;
  • Experience supporting mentoring or cohort-based programs;
  • Familiarity with STEM career pathways and industries;
  • Experience using career services or student engagement platforms (e.g., Handshake, mentoring platforms, CRM systems);
  • Experience with data tracking, assessment, and reporting;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Strong event planning and employer engagement skills.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $36.55 per hour

Classification: Part-time MCCC Grade 3
