Position Summary

The candidate is expected to commit to excellence in teaching and learning, collaboration and professional development. Adjunct faculty are expected to deliver course materials in a learner-centered environment conductive to engaging students in the learning process. The faculty member in this position communicates consistently and effectively with students, faculty and administrators, and responds to communications within a 24 hour period. The faculty is responsible for managing this course through timely grading of assignments, providing substantial student feedback with assignments, and submission of clinical evaluations, attendance and grades.
MassBay Community College seeks qualified part-time instructors in the Nursing Program for the Fall, Spring, and Summer (Practical Nursing) semesters. The practical nursing clinical course covers nursing care of clients in the labor and delivery units. The instructor must have clinical experience, communicate effectively, assess students objectively, and work as part of a team.
Available Clinical: Fall, Spring, and Summer
Days may vary each week.

Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Supervising students in the clinical setting;
- Guidance in completing assignments such as daily clinical worksheets, concept maps, and care plans;
- Knowledge of Medication card system, and conducting student evaluations;
- Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and an awareness of new developments in the field;
- Integrates didactic content into the student(s) clinical assignment.
- Communicate with course faculty regularly to track student progress or to develop performance improvement plans to support student learning;
- Responsible for conducting the mid-semester and final clinical evaluations;
- Assigns, supervises, plans experiences, and evaluates students in practice learning environments based on course and program student learning outcomes;
- Provides support, guidance, and instruction on all aspects of patient care while at the clinical facility or laboratory classroom;
- Demonstrate procedures and patient care in clinical or laboratory nursing settings;
- Provide feedback to the assistant dean of nursing, program director, and clinical placement coordinator on the appropriateness of the health care agency in terms of teaching/learning environments for students;
- Provides feedback to the course faculty on student preparedness regarding curriculum;
- Attend course-specific orientation on campus with the Assistant Dean of Nursing and course faculty;
- Participate in clinical faculty mentoring as identified by the Assistant Dean of Nursing and course faculty;
- Participate in the Program’s continuous improvement efforts, which include BORN and ACEN requirements;
- Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation required by the program;
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- BSN for Practical Nursing and MSN for Associate Degree Nursing;
- A minimum of two years of full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years and evidence of clinical competence in the area(s) of clinical instruction;
- Clinical teaching experience;
- Current unencumbered Massachusetts RN license.
- Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;
- Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
- Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
- Recent clinical practice in relevant areas: Labor and Delivery and Postpartum unit;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of faculty, staff, and student body;
