Local non profit organization is looking for an Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day financial operations. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working both strategically and tactically owning the full accounting cycle while supporting leadership with financial insight and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Manage and execute full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing
- Maintain accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Prepare internal financial statements and reports for leadership and the Board
Nonprofit & Fund Accounting
- Track and manage restricted and unrestricted funds
- Ensure proper allocation of expenses across programs and grants
- Monitor grant budgets and support grant reporting requirements
- Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP)
Budgeting & Reporting
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts
- Monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide variance analysis
- Support leadership with financial planning and decision-making insights
Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate annual audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
- Prepare schedules and documentation for audit and 990 filings
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Process Improvement
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes and internal controls
- Recommend and implement system or workflow enhancements as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit environment
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit (fund) accounting principles
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Ability to operate independently in a small, lean team environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
