Program and Operations Manager

Responsibilities
Logistics, Distribution, and Supply Chain Management

• Logistics and Distribution: Manage the efficient and timely distribution of food donations to the Weekend Backpacks facility and then to participating schools.
• Inventory Management: Oversee food inventory, including stock rotation and supply levels, to ensure that an adequate amount of food is available for packing and distribution schedules.
• Procurement: Manage all food ordering from the Maryland Food Bank and local grocery retailers. Work within budgetary constraints to allocate resources effectively for operational needs.
• Menu Planning: Develop weekly menus for student food bags, focusing on nutritional value and ease of preparation.
• Data Management: Provide weekly and monthly reports to the Executive Director on receivables and distributions.
• Operations Team Management: Supervise two operations assistants in daily warehouse and logistics activities, which include receiving food deliveries to the warehouse, performing inventory stocking and organization, loading vehicles for delivery to schools, and other operations tasks as assigned.

Compliance and Reporting

• Ensure all food handling and storage practices comply with health and safety regulations.
• Ensure all occupational safety policies and best practices are followed by staff and volunteers.
• Ensure the facility is clean and well-organized, and maintained to the highest standards.

Volunteer Management

• Coordinate adequate volunteer support for each packing session.
• Oversee the set-up of food and supplies for volunteer packing sessions, ensuring enough bags are packed to meet the weekly demand.
• Manage all volunteer communications and cultivate a genuine appreciation for their important contributions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer drivers making deliveries to help address logistics challenges.
• Cover various volunteer positions, including delivering to schools when the need arises.

Relationship Building and Collaboration

• Assist the Executive Director in identifying gaps in service, volunteer coordination, and community engagement, and recommend changes to meet strategic goals.
• Serve as the primary collaborator with the Maryland Food Bank and other food supply partners.

QUALIFICATIONS And SKILLS REQUIRED

• Problem-Solving: A methodical and meticulous problem-solver with a proven ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
• Communications & Collaboration: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel) and Google Workplace Suite.
• Team Leadership: Experience managing and working with diverse groups of volunteers of various ages.
• Physical Requirements & Logistics: Must be able to lift 25-30 pounds. Requires a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle with no moving violations in the last three years. Experience driving cargo vans or larger vehicles is a plus.

Salary:
The salary for this position is $55,000/year. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance and participation in a retirement plan.
