Heavy physical effort is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. May need to climb stairs and ladders; lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 50 pounds. Must be able to respond effectively to emergency situations. Frequent prolonged standing/walking, push/pull or move/lift heavy equipment and supplies; manual dexterity and mobility with occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching; specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

- Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Facilities Department. Follows schedule as assigned by the Lead Maintenance Worker and/or Facilities Manager. Reports the status of job assignments daily to the Lead Maintenance Worker.
- Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of stock items such as plumbing supplies, wood, electrical and equipment parts
- Performs requisitioned, corrective, emergency and preventative maintenance tasks of electrical distribution, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing and building structures as required. Maintains records of maintenance repairs. Maintenance Workers will respond to emergency repair calls.
- Assists in replacing, installing, repairing and testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances and lighting systems as required.
- Diagnoses system malfunctions on mechanical and electrical equipment. Repairs or replaces defective parts as necessary.
- Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, painting, carpentry, parking & traffic control, removing trash or scrap material).
- Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
- Maintains all tools and equipment and keeps the maintenance shop in a clean and orderly condition.
- Ability to do work on his/her own with only minimal supervision.
- Works day, evening, night, or weekend shifts as assigned.
- Shall perform Groundkeeper duties as occasionally assigned.
- Responds to emergency situations (i.e., fire alarms, loss of utilities, disturbances, etc.).
- Performs other related duties as shall be assigned on occasion.
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
- One year experience in the maintenance field preferred.
- Valid Hawaii driver’s license.
- Hands-on technical experience in one or more functional areas (electrical, mechanical, woodwork, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret simple graphs.
- Ability to maintain highly sensitive, confidential information.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
- Ability to repair mechanical/electrical equipment and plumbing.
- Ability to understand and follow complex instructions.
- Skill in the use of basic hand tools and testing equipment.
- Provides hospitable service to students, faculty, visitors, and staff.
