GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The employee in this classification, under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, is responsible for cleaning and servicing all areas of the Facility; performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Cleans baseboards, floors, doors, doorframes, blinds and light switches, elevators, corridors, stairwells, handrails, solariums, resident rooms, bathroom and shower rooms with solutions in assigned areas.
- Cleans and maintains valance units in assigned areas.
- Cleans and maintains ceilings, ceiling fixtures and air vents in assigned areas.
- Cleans drinking fountains, sinks, chrome fixtures, mirrors and toilets.
- Washes walls, windows, windowsills, furniture, including resident beds, and equipment.
- Empties trash containers and replaces trash container liners in assigned areas.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion on the Facility premises.
- Cleans and maintains Environmental Services storerooms, closets and equipment.
- Stocks restrooms with necessary paper products; cleans, fills and maintains soap in assigned areas.
- Maintains inventory; requests cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
- Operates standard cleaning equipment such as: brooms and mops, mop pail and wringer, vacuum cleaners and other facility maintenance equipment.
- Lifts, moves and carries equipment and supplies that weigh up to 50 pounds; pushes and pulls equipment and supplies that weigh up to 100 pounds.
- May be required to clean and service areas other than those regularly assigned.
- Removes linens and soiled materials from the Nursing Units, as directed.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test.
- This is an entry level position; no prior experience is required.
- Previous cleaning experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Successful completion of the probationary period for the position of Environmental Services Worker I.
- Be physically able to perform the essential function of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of environmental supplies, equipment and procedures.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of residents, staff and Facility guests.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, residents, and residents’ families.
- Ability to make minor and routine repairs.
- Ability to conduct oneself with tact and courtesy.
