THIS POSTING IS TO FILL THE CURRENT VACANCY AND TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBILITY LIST TO FILL ANY FUTURE VACANCIES THAT MAY OCCUR IN THE NEXT 6 MONTHS
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in Business Administration, Business Management or related field is required. Four years of transportation and/or management related experience is required. Extensive knowledge of transit system, freight system, and overall transportation services, and Rail Standard Operation procedures required. Successful completion of internal transportation related and/or supervisory training desired. Preference is given to candidates who have successfully completed Authority (e.g. MARTA University) management and supervision classes, U.S. DOT Transportation Safety Institute classes relevant to Rail Transportation, and/or similar structured course work. Excellent verbal and written communications, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required. Experience in union environment is required. Knowledge of track allocation procedures, coordination during special events, and development of operation plans desired. Directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirement.
INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.
Summary
The Rail Line Supervisor serves as the first line of supervision for rail operations. The position manages and supervises the activities of MARTA Rail Operators to ensure compliance with all operating and safety rules. The position also serves as the first line of supervision for rail operations within yard confines supervising the status and movement of all trains and assignment of trains for revenue services. Oversees the day-to-day activities of mainline and/or rail yard operations, operator performance, rail on-time performance (OTP), service delays, and facility concerns. Maintains accurate documentation and investigates customer complaints. Provides the vital link between MARTA’s Rail Services Control Center and field rail operations. Coordinates with Rail Car Maintenance to ensure that trains are available for revenue and special services. Checks employees reporting for work to ensure fitness for duty. Coordinates runs for Rail Operators to ensure uninterrupted service. The Supervisor is responsible for the enforcement of rules compliance and fitness for duty by way of reasonable suspicion evaluation and accident and incident investigations. Maintains personnel/pay records. Identifies problems which cause interruptions to revenue service. Take corrective measures to reduce/solve any problems or concerns. Takes corrective action to solve minor problems associated with faregates, escalators, elevators, and reports all discrepancies to Rail Service Control Center (RSCC). Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.

The position also serves as the first line of supervision for rail operations within yard confines supervising the status and movement of all trains and assignment of trains for revenue services. Provides the vital link between MARTA’s Rail Services Control Center and field rail operations.
- Serves as the first line of supervision for rail operations. Assigns work and supervises Rail Operators. Ensures day-to-day activities, that support the Authority’s work goals, are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policies and procedures. Conducts and participates in regular safety programs and activities to improve overall safety of MARTA's Rail Operations with emphasis on employees, patrons and equipment.
- Plans, monitors, evaluates and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential while maintaining a high-performance environment. Engages Rail Operators in interviews, discussions, and if necessary, discipline. Coaches personnel through the mentoring program on proper work performance, frequently providing direct technical assistance. Ensures all personnel are familiar with work rules and procedures.
- Review daily performance tracking reports to evaluate and identify areas that require action to improve/enhance rail service delivery. Identify problems which cause interruptions to revenue service. Inspects and monitors Rail Stations to ensure proper operation of station equipment and to assist patrons when needed. Take corrective measures to reduce/solve any problems or concerns.

- Kneels, squats, or bends up to 1 hour per day.
- Occasionally cranks hand switches in yards and mainline.
