Provisional License B $43.07 - $42.36/hour
Generalist License $56.31 - $60.17/hour depending on education level

Job Summary


Provides interpreting services to deaf/hard of hearing students.

Essential Functions


  • Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and ASL into spoken English for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in classrooms, labs, tutoring sessions, and campus events.
  • Accurately convey the content, spirit, and intent of all communication, including technical or academic jargon.

  • Adjust language register appropriately depending on the setting and individuals involved.
  • Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct and any state licensing or credentialing standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid AZ license (Generalist, Provisional B or Provisional C)
  • Valid certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and/or BEI certification (where applicable).

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of interpreting experience in an educational or post-secondary setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.

Special Working Conditions


  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense
  • May require working remotely
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and/or viewing a computer screen
  • Positions in this class typically require: standing, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
