What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Engineer position at Marcal Paper?
Overview
A Process Engineer Evaluates mass and energy balances to reduce costs. Consistently working on improving the OEE for a process. OEE is directly influenced by waste, time efficiency, and speed of a process. Process Engineers usually have a very good understanding of the entire manufacturing process. Process Engineers usually have a Chemical Engineering degree or Industrial Engineering degree. designs, implements, and optimizes industrial manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, safety, and quality, turning raw materials into finished products by analyzing workflows, developing technical documentation, running simulations, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with teams to reduce costs and boost output in industries like chemical, food, or pharma. Key duties involve process mapping, process simulation, data analysis, risk assessment, equipment design/modification, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance, Quality, and Safety
Process Optimization: Analyze existing workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to increase productivity and reduce waste.
● System Design: Develop, configure, and upgrade industrial systems and equipment for new or modified processes.
● Data & Simulation: Use process simulations (e.g., HYSYS) and interpret plant/lab data to evaluate performance and troubleshoot issues.
● Documentation: Create and maintain technical documents, process flow diagrams (P&IDs), and best practice guidelines.
● Collaboration: Work with production, quality control, and other engineering disciplines (like instrumentation).
● Safety & Compliance: Ensure processes meet safety standards and environmental regulations, creating safety guidelines.
Planning, Inventory, and Coverage
● Maintenance Planning: Plan and execute maintenance schedules and activities based on dynamic plant demands and specific equipment requirements.
● Maintenance Coverage: Provide necessary maintenance cover throughout the working day and be available for on-call or out-of-hours work as needed to support critical plant operations.
Required Qualifications
• Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
• Experience: Relevant experience in process engineering or a similar role, often 3-5 years, is preferred.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in process simulation software, data analysis tools, and CAD software is essential.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address process issues effectively.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and present findings
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Physical Effort: Must be capable of exerting physical effort in movement-type work, including standing, climbing, and performing tasks that involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials.
● Environmental Exposure: Requires working with regular exposure to common manufacturing conditions, including dirt, dust, noise, odors, wetness, humidity, and occasional temperature extremes.
● Schedule: Ability to work on flexible schedules and provide maintenance cover as required for plant demands, including occasional overtime or emergency call-ins
