What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Supervisor- Kansasville, WI position at Maple Leaf Farms?
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for duck husbandry practices, health and well-being at the farm, including feed changes, weights, and development of breeders.
- Supervise and direct farm employees in gathering of eggs, vaccinations, general duck husbandry and other processes.
- Achieve optimum egg production and quality to produce highest number of grade “A” ducklings.
- Apply current Live Production Duck Well-Being Guidelines, Safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, biosecurity and environmental policies.
- Responsible for the development and training of breeder farm staff.
- Efficiently complete the necessary breeder flock paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with other departments within Live Production for accurate deliveries, maintenance and feed orders.
- Perform weekend and holiday work as required.
- Perform related duties as required if trained or qualified to do.
Job Specifications:
Requires working knowledge of standard operating procedures in the Breeder Department, adhere to safety guidelines and previous experience in an agricultural related field.
Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in mechanical troubleshooting, basic mathematics and problem solving.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form with all areas of Live Production and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of computers, including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to interface effectively with other departments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead groups of employees and processes, including the development of subordinates.
- Ability to adhere and follow biosecurity and duck well-being guidelines.
- Knowledge and skills are typically acquired through the completion of a two-to-four-year degree in Animal Science, technical training or equivalent agricultural experience.
