MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Payroll Accountant to join our team in Herndon VA. This is a hybrid position requiring to be on site 1-4 days a month.
The Senior Payroll Accountant will leverage their strong technical background and knowledge to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll within a dynamic government contracting environment. You will handle complex payroll tasks, provide guidance on regulations, and ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws including prevailing wage requirements and multi-state taxation.

You will handle complex payroll tasks, provide guidance on regulations, and ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws including prevailing wage requirements and multi-state taxation.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Serve as the primary contact for payroll inquiries, providing expert guidance on policies, timekeeping, and leave.
- Process terminations and off-cycle checks accurately, ensuring final pay calculations strictly adhere to state regulations.
- Maintain employee data integrity and manage complex payroll inputs, including garnishments, levies, and tax reciprocity rules.
- Support labor distribution and payroll reconciliation to ensure precise cost allocation and financial accuracy.
- Manage payroll ticketing systems to resolve discrepancies and inquiries promptly while maintaining high customer satisfaction.
- Lead the development of payroll documentation and implement process improvements to enhance system efficiency and compliance.
- Assist in testing new payroll technologies and provide comprehensive training to employees and junior staff.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred with 5 years of progressively responsible experience in payroll within a government contracting environment.
- Significant experience with multi-state payroll processing and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in payroll software and timekeeping systems, Deltek Costpoint and/or Workday a must.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to manage payrolls for > 1500 employees
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Self-Starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to resolve complex timekeeping discrepancies.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
- Ability to manage payrolls for > 3000 employees
- US Citizenship
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets and office machinery.
- Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
- Be able to exchange accurate information about complex situations.
