Company Description
Manke Lumber is private, family-owned, integrated forest products company, headquartered in Tacoma, WA. The company owns timberland and two sawmills, all located in western Washington. Manke is looking to make an immediate hire in the position of Controller to replace the soon-to-retire incumbent.
Role Description
The Controller will oversee the accounting department, including A/R, A/P, log accounting, payroll, and IT. The successful candidate will play an integral role in upgrading Manke’s financial accounting and reporting systems, helping management understand the drivers of profitability in their business, and improve processes throughout the department. The role is based in Tacoma, WA.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead monthly close process
- Manage day-to-day accounting and payroll operations
- Part of systems implementations and upgrades (financial accounting, lumber inventory, log accounting, timber inventory management)
- Drive major upgrade to monthly financial reporting packet, primarily through the implementation of a new accounting system, but also making temporary improvements within the existing system
- Primary liaison with auditor towards completion of annual audit
- Deliver quarterly lender compliance reporting
- Perform Treasury duties (daily cash management, deposit checks)
- Lead annual insurance renewal process
- Annual budget and outlook process (rolling 5 quarters)
Backing up in accounting department as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CFA) is preferred but not required
- Prior experience in the manufacturing and timber industries is advantageous
- Strong financial management, accounting, and budget preparation skills
- Experience with financial reporting, auditing, and regulatory compliance
- Proficiency in analyzing financial data, forecasting, and implementing internal controls
- Proficiency in implementing systems upgrades
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with all stakeholders
