JOB TITLE: Sports and Wellness Director
Location: Mandel JCC, Boynton Beach
Classification: Salaried, exempt
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Senior Programming Director, the Sports and Wellness Director is responsible for sports programs from preschool through adult and wellness programs for adults at the Mandel JCC. Sports Programs include preschool PE, enrichment classes, sports clinics, and leagues. Wellness programs include fitness and wellness activities for young adults through seniors. This position also includes the Sports Camp Director at Camp Shalom.
Normal working hours will include evenings and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with our Program Directors to create and bring to life a vision for an intentional integration of sports and wellness in our existing youth programs. This involves planning with the program directors, overseeing the safety and quality of our programs, and providing direct instruction of sports and wellness activities throughout our youth programs.
- Instruct Early Childhood (preschool) Physical Education based on chosen curriculum
- Develop, coordinate, and instruct afterschool enrichment classes
- Develop and teach (when applicable) clinics. Clinics may be taught by the Director of Sports, Enrichment and Wellness or outside vendors
- Serve as the Head of our Sports specialty area at Camp Shalom, our summer day camp. This involves planning innovative, engaging, and safe sport and recreational activities for campers ages 5-16 years old; hiring, training, overseeing and evaluating sport specialists; and being a key member of the camp leadership team throughout the entire program.
- Coach groups or individuals in the fundamentals of sports
- Run the JCC’s Winter and Spring Sports Camps
- Partner with the Children and Family Department to expand the JCC’s enrichment area, which currently consists of thematic birthday parties and recreational activities for 2–10-year-olds during the week including the weekend. This will be a key area for strengthening and development.
- Create and oversee sports leagues for children and adults, including, but not limited to, basketball, volleyball and pickleball
- Establishing a culture of health and self-care in the organization and our community by providing training and educational experiences to staff and community members
- Create new community opportunities for Sports and Wellness engagement for people of all ages, including but limited to competitive leagues, bike-rides, water sports, hikes, runs, education around nutrition and self-care, etc.
- Expose the JCC’s Sports and Wellness programs to the wider community by maximizing the beautiful parks and outdoor spaces in our community
- Work with the Director of Special Needs to provide programming and engagement opportunities for children with exceptionalities
- Communicate with all program participants, responding to phone calls, emails, and in-person visits from participants.
- Build relationships with sports and wellness vendors
- Create, coordinate, and implement recruitment strategy and marketing materials
- Develop and manage program budgets
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 3 years’ working with children and sports.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills and sensitivity and comfort in engaging with people of all ages.
- Passionate about Judaism and Jewish communal life.
- Energized by kids and/or teens.
- Excellent oral and written skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize demands.
- Flexible, able to meet changing work needs and demands.
- Excellent organizational and supervisory skills (including talent development).
- Plans and utilizes time effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and community members
- A sense of humor and a passion for learning are essential.

Special Requirements and Physical Demands:
- Ability to exert moderate physical efforts which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weights (up to 50lbs), bending, stooping, stretching, squatting and sitting.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Noise level can be quiet to moderate.
- Flexibility to work various schedules as needed.
