JOB TITLE: Assistant Camp Director & J345 Coordinator
Location: Mandel JCC, Palm Beach Gardens

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Program Director and Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director and J345 Coordinator is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and oversight of interactive programs tailored to 3rd-5th grade participants and summer camp programming. This includes managing program operations, supervising staff, overseeing budgets, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role exercises independent judgment and decision-making authority in the day-to-day management of youth programming. Normal working hours will include some evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, leadership skills, and a passion for fostering meaningful experiences for children in a diverse and inclusive environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently plan, manage, and evaluate programs, exercising discretion in scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with families and serve as a key liaison to parents and guardians, addressing inquiries, concerns, and updates with professionalism
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, training, and supervision of part-time and seasonal staff to ensure high-quality program delivery and alignment with program standards and organizational goals.
- Use program data and participant feedback to recommend improvements and implement changes that enhance program effectiveness and engagement.
- Collaborate with internal departments such as marketing and facilities to support program promotion and execution.
- Ensure all programming needs are met, including managing facility use, transportation needs, and supply logistics.
- Serve as a core member of the Camp Shalom leadership team, contributing to independent judgement, staff development, camper programming, and daily camp operations.
- Support positive behavior management and serve as a resource for staff in addressing participant needs.
- Uphold all safety protocols and organizational policies to ensure the well-being of all participants.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Camp Director.
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and substantial relevant experience may be considered.
- 3 Minimum of 3 years’ experience in youth program development, management, or education, with direct experience working with children in grades K–5.
- Demonstrates leadership skills with experience supervising part-time staff and/or volunteers.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple programs simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage confidently and compassionately with children, families, and staff.
- Deep commitment to Jewish values and communal life; familiarity with Jewish traditions or cultural programming is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and build positive relationships with community stakeholders.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
- Flexible and adaptable, with a proactive attitude and a collaborative mindset.
- Cultural competence and demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- A sense of humor, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with children and families.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to exert moderate physical efforts which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weights (up to 50lbs), bending, stooping, stretching, squatting and sitting.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Noise level can be moderate to loud.
- Flexibility to work various schedules as needed.
- Frequent exposure to outside elements, such as sun exposure, heat, humidity, and rain.
