What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech and Language Pathologist position at Manchester Essex Regional School District?
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, cognitive, and related learning disorders at the elementary level. They design individualized treatment plans to help individuals overcome impairments. This is an elementary, district-wide position.
Key Responsibilities
-Administer standardized tests and clinical observations to evaluate a student's speech sound production, fluency (stuttering), voice quality, language comprehension, and swallowing mechanics.
-Develop and implement customized, measurable therapy goals to improve oral and written communication skills and strengthen swallowing muscles.
-Work directly with students to develop alternative communication channels (e.g., augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices) or modify diets for safe swallowing.
-Counsel students, family members, and support team on coping strategies, communication techniques, and exercises to practice at home.
-Maintain accurate, confidential records of evaluations, treatment progress, discharge summaries, and insurance/billing information.
