Job Summary:

The Regional Sales Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and performance-managing a team of Sales Managers while driving revenue growth, market share, and execution excellence across an assigned region. This role serves as the primary operational leader for regional field sales, translating company strategy into disciplined execution through multiple layers of sales leadership. The Regional Sales Manager balances people leadership, strategic planning, and business management, ensuring consistent standards, accountability, and culture across all districts. Success in this role requires strong leadership presence, analytical rigor, and the ability to drive results through others in a complex, competitive environment.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop Sales Managers and Field Support Specialists to build high-performing sales organizations
  • Set clear expectations for leadership behaviors, territory execution, and performance standards
  • Conduct regular field visits, ride-along, and leadership coaching sessions
  • Oversee talent development, succession planning, and hiring in partnership with HR and senior leadership
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement

       Sales Performance & Business Management

  • Drive achievement of regional revenue, growth, margin, and market-share objectives
  • Review and challenge district and territory business plans, forecasts, and pipelines
  • Monitor regional performance metrics and implement corrective actions where needed
  • Ensure consistent execution of pricing, promotions, and sales initiatives

Strategy Deployment & Execution

  • Translate national and regional strategies into clear execution plans for Sales Managers
  • Lead regional rollout of new products, programs, and sales initiatives
  • Ensuring alignment between Makita priorities and field execution across all districts
  • Support strategic initiatives tied to key customers, large projects, and market opportunities

Channel & Customer Engagement

  • Support Sales Managers in managing distributor relationships and key regional accounts
  • Participate in executive-level customer meetings and escalations as required
  • Reinforce best practices in distribution management, pull-through selling, and value-based selling
  • Serve as a senior field representative for Makita within the region

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with marketing, product management, operations, training, and service teams
  • Provide structured regional feedback to improve products, programs, and go-to-market execution
  • Collaborate with other Regional Sales Managers to share best practices and drive consistency

Reporting, Governance & Compliance

  • Provide regular business updates, forecasts, and strategic insights to the Regional Vice President
  • Manage regional budgets, travel planning, and expense controls
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and ethical guidelines

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment:

This is a field-based leadership role operating from a home office. The Regional Sales Manager spends significant time traveling within the assigned region to support Sales Managers, visit customers and distributors, and attend meetings. Work environments include offices, distributor facilities, industrial and construction jobsites, and meeting venues.

 

Travel:

Regular regional travel is required, including frequent driving and overnight stays. The role also includes occasional regional and national air travel for leadership meetings, training sessions, and company events.

 

Education and/or Experience Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field preferred
  • 10 years of progressive B2B sales experience, preferably in industrial, construction, or technical products
  • Prior experience managing multi-district or multi-layer field sales organizations strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success driving results through sales leadership teams
  • Experience working through distribution channels
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and products weighing up to approximately 50-75 pounds, including items such as lawn mowers, breaker hammers, and display materials
  • Ability to safely operate and demonstrate power tools, including saws, drills, breaker hammers, and other handheld or equipment
  • Ability to transport tools, displays, and merchandising materials into and out of vehicles, customer facilities, and jobsite environments
  • Ability to walk extended distances through large industrial and construction jobsites while carrying tools or equipment
  • Ability to navigate stairs, ramps, elevators, ladders, and uneven or outdoor terrain commonly found on jobsites
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and use repetitive hand and arm motions during demonstrations, setup, and merchandising activities
  • Ability to drive for extended periods of time, including local and regional travel, in varying weather and traffic conditions
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise, dust, temperature variations, and typical jobsite conditions
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and protective footwear
