POSITION: Painter - Summer Employment Only
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Coodinator of Maintenance
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
EMPLOYMENT TERM: July 6, 2026 to August 1, 2026, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, M-F
As per West Virginia Code §5-10-48, individuals who have retired from a West Virginia school system are not eligible for re-employment in a West Virginia school system until 60 days have passed since their official retirement date.
SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Jefferson County Salary Scale, Pay Grade E commensurate with experience and education level, and license level
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the immediate supervisor(s) and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and JCBOE’s Evaluation Policy for Service Personnel
JOB SUMMARY: The job of a painter is done for the purpose/s of painting, finishing and decorating wood, metal and concrete surfaces of buildings, other structures, equipment, machinery and furnishings of a county school system.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional Duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; Criminal
background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c; Meet the definition of
“Qualifications” in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to
WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test, as required).

Specific Assignment Responsibilities:
1. Perform duties of painting, finishing and decorating wood, metal and concrete surfaces of buildings, other structures, equipment, machinery and furnishings of a county school system.
2. Responsible for pre-painting preparation, post painting clean-up.
3. Complete assignments at designated facilities
4. Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, climb, talk, hear, see and use complex repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and or move at least 50 pounds of materials, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact well with the public and staff members. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress and work effectively with others to include demonstrating behavior that reflects established professional responsibilities (i.e., attendance, punctuality, professional dress, and verbal/nonverbal communication); and developing a positive relationship with students, staff, and community.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment includes indoor as well as outdoor settings and can range in temperature from below freezing to 90ºF. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
