Accounting Specialist I

Maine State Credit Union is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated Accounting Specialist I to join our Accounting team. If you enjoy working with numbers, solving discrepancies, and ensuring financial accuracy, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while expanding your knowledge across a variety of accounting functions.

In this role, you'll be a key player in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. Your work will have a direct impact on our daily operations and financial success.

Responsibilities include:

• Reconciling daily and monthly general ledger accounts
• Researching and resolving outstanding accounting items
• Preparing and maintaining supporting documentation
• Assisting with accounts payable processes and employee expense reporting
• Supporting month-end activities and financial reporting
• Collaborating with departments across the organization to resolve transaction issues
• Cross-training in other accounting functions and providing backup support as needed

We're seeking candidates who have both a passion for accounting and a strong foundation in accounting principles.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Strong understanding of accounting and bookkeeping fundamentals
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or related experience
• Experience reconciling accounts and researching discrepancies
• Familiarity with general ledger activity and financial reporting processes

The pay range for this position is $20/hr-24/hr based on experience.
