Maine School Administrative District No. 33 serves students in grades PreK-12 in St. Agatha, ME, home of the Long Lake Fishing Derby, one of the largest fishing derby's in the state. The district has two (2) schools under one roof, Wisdom Middle/High School and Dr. Levesque Elementary School, a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School. The district is also home to the St. John Valley Technology Center, serving students from MSAD33, MSAD27, and the Madawaska School Department.

Job Summary:
The Cooperative Education Instructor plays a vital role in connecting students with real-work work experiences, preparing them for future careers, and building strong community partnerships. This role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating work-based learning experiences for students; including finding and maintaining partnerships with employers, ensuring students' safety and well-being at work, and providing support and guidance to students and employers.
Performance Responsibilities:
Partnership Development
- Build and maintain relationships and communication with local employers to:
- Create, secure and maintain co-op placements for students.
- Ensure appropriate student training and placement.
- Create and conduct needs assessment surveys.
- Develop and maintain a database of co-op positions and relevant employers.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate employer placements and ensure they align with educational goals.
Student Placement and Support
- Develop and implement the opportunity for work-based experiences for all students.
- Determine student's interests, capabilities, and eligibility for work-based experiences.
- Facilitate the placement of students in relevant co-op positions.
- Monitor student progress, attendance, academic progress, job performance and overall program success.
- Provide student support and guidance.
- Coordinate transition activities for students starting work-based experiences.
- Ensure training, career plans, job applications, co-op documents, records of hours, earnings, and follow ups etc. are properly managed and maintained.
Workplace Safety and Compliance:
- Perform periodic visits to work-based sites to monitor student progress.
- Ensure student's safety and well-being at work.
- Facilitate background checks, insurance coverage, and compliance with applicable regulations.
Communication and Coordination:
- Communicate with students, employers, and school staff to:
- Ensure smooth co-op operations
- Address any issues that may arise
- Provide support and guidance
- Attend various school and community agencies meetings
Curriculum Integration:
- Align work-based learning with academic goals
- Develop individualized learning plans
- Integrate co-op experiences with classroom learning
- Coordinate instruction related to placement tasks such as resumes, interviewing and job searches, etc.
- Create and implement an orientation about program placement.
- Teach courses in your area of certification for half of the school day.
Evaluation and Feedback:
- Evaluate student performance in co-op placements and provide feedback to students and employers.
- Completed employer and student satisfaction surveys relative to services provided.
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
Compliance with Regulations:
- Evaluate work-based training sites for compliance with State and Federal Labor Law guidelines.
- Follow Maine's Cooperative Education Regulations
- Adhere to certification requirements, student safety procedures, and employer compliance.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build and maintain partnerships with employers.
- Knowledge of Maine's Cooperative Education Program's regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to organize and manage cooperative education programs effectively.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and instruction.
- Valid Maine Teaching Certificate, with Endorsement 860: Cooperative Education Coordinator
