EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High School diploma, some college preferred.

2. Highly recommend one or more years’ experience as an optometric technician.

3. Strongly encourage certification as an ophthalmic technician (COA) or paraoptometric (CPOT).

6. Demonstrates ability to perform comprehensive work-ups on 2-3 patients per hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Communication, Clinic & Patient Care

a. Acquaints all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Informs patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.

b. Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.

c. Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include, but not limited to:

· Automated lensometry

· Auto-refraction

· Visual acuity-with and without correction and pinhole

· Pupillary function tests

· Evaluation of motility

· Confrontational and automated visual field testing (Humphrey and virtual)

· Stereo testing

· Color vision analysis

· Amsler Grid training

· Advanced refractometry

· Applanation tonometry

· Tonopen

· Angle and peripheral iridotomy assessment

· Instillation of drops

· Contact lens prescription calculations and trainings

· Ordering contact lens trials and supplies

· OCT-macula and optic nerve

· Fundus photos

· External photos

· Pachymetry

· Sending in prescriptions

· Cleaning and disinfecting the equipment and exam lanes

d. Maintains a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required. Communicates with reception and lead technician to facilitate proper patient flow.

e. Provides telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills, patient care questions, and scheduling patients requiring non-routine services.

f. Troubleshoots instruments as necessary and reports to lead technician.

g. Audits clinical supply levels, communicating to chief of staff which items fall below par level.

h. Checks tasks periodically throughout the work day and any other duties as required.

i. Completes prescription and prior authorization requests.

j. Check email at least once daily to keep up to date with office procedures and ask lead technician or chief of staff for any clarification.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
